Glossary
In this compact overview, you will find the most important technical terms relating to our product range clearly presented and explained.
Term | Main definition |
---|---|
Double-disk grinding | Double-disk grinding enables machining of both sides of workpieces. The workpieces are passed between two grinding wheels in a workpiece carrier. Opposite surfaces are thus machined simultaneously which is why even large quantities can be produced quickly and cost-effectively. |
Edge rounding | Edge rounding is used to round off sharp edges precisely. A small layer of material is removed from the edges of the workpiece to create a smooth surface. The rounded edges of the workpieces lead to improved properties in components where several parts interlock or slide on top of each other. |
Engine | In aviation the engine includes the engine and other components necessary for propulsion. These may include turbines and also propellers and gearboxes. |
Fine grinding | Fine grinding is a grinding process in which workpieces are processed by pressure and rotational movement. Wear is very low due to the use of high hardness abrasives which means that the process delivers precise and dimensionally accurate results. The process is used in double-sided grinding to simultaneously machine opposite sides of workpieces. |
Flat honing | Flat honing is a fine grinding process. In contrast to lapping abrasive grains that are bound with an adhesive are used. This allows a high degree of dimensional accuracy to be achieved. |

Indexable inserts | Indexable inserts are cutting material carriers. The indexable insert is fixed in a corresponding tool holder and is exchangeable. Since these inserts have several cutting edges they can be turned over if one of the sides is worn down. |
IoT | IoT is an abbreviation for 'Internet of Things'. This term is used to describe networks between physical objects equipped with sensors and software. This connection is used to exchange data between devices and with systems embedded over the Internet. These technologies can be used to automate and synchronize production processes. |
Lapping | Lapping is a production process for smoothing surfaces. A liquid or paste the so-called lapping mixture is used to distribute the cutting grain. Due to the unbound grain in the lapping mixture high surface qualities can be achieved with low material removal. |
